Android 4.3 spotted !

Sam Mobile just obtained some screenshots of an early Android 4.3 build running on a Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505). The test build was originally for the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505G), as we can see from the screenshot of “About phone”.

According to the screenshots, the Android version is “4.3” and the build number is “JWR66N.S005.130625“. Android build number is “JWR66N,” and “S005.130625″ is something which Samsung has added to keep a record of internal test builds.

Google hasn’t made Android 4.3 public yet, but it’s good to know that OEMs already have access to the source code. Early access will result in quick software updates and less Android fragmentation.

Vine For Android Updated With Front Camera Support !

Thanks (or no thanks) to Instagram announcing a video feature of their own, reports are suggesting that the number of downloads of Vine have declined, with recent reports showing that the number of shared Vine videos has gone down as well.

Perhaps in an attempt to regain some of its user base, or as an added incentive to keep existing users using their service, Vine for Android has been updated and with its latest update, it will now bring support to front-facing cameras. We’re not sure what took so long for Vine to introduce this update, especially since it was more or less a given and sort of an expected feature to begin with, but we guess better late than never, right?

Apart from the added support of front-facing cameras, there are additional updates made to the app such as bug fixes, performance tweaks and the likes. Android users who have yet to update their app can head on over to Google Play to do so.

Facebook is cracking down on ads next to offensive content !

Facebook has come under fire recently, with advertisers being pressured to pull out, as ads show up next to offensive content and in  groups and pages with questionable material. The company announced Friday that it will strengthen its advertising review process to ensure that it happens less frequently.

Last month, major brands in the U.K. such as Nissan and Nationwide were pressured to pull advertising from Facebook after sidebar ads showed up on pages that glorified violence against women. Facebook took a stand against this, saying that the company will work harder to make sure that these kinds of pages and groups don’t last on the site.

Now it appears that this work is coming to fruition.

Facebook announced the changes to the review process for groups and pages in the Newsroom blog:

“Beginning on Monday, we will implement a new review process for determining which Pages and Groups should feature ads alongside their content. This process will expand the scope of Pages and Groups that should be ad-restricted. By the end of the week, we will remove ads from all Pages and Groups that fall into this new, more expansive restricted list.

For example, we will now seek to restrict ads from appearing next to Pages and Groups that contain any violent, graphic or sexual content (content that does not violate our community standards). Prior to this change, a Page selling adult products was eligible to have ads appear on its right-hand side; now there will not be ads displayed next to this type of content.”

Is your password is strong enough?

Thinking of strong password is just a no brainer , it can contain combination of alphabets , numeric values , Upper & Lower characters and special characters.
e.g. todayFeeling@1234#

But to know whether password is strong enough or not, just goes thru the website from Microsoft.

This password checker does not collect, store, or transmit information.

The security of the passwords typed into this password checker is similar to the security of the password you enter when you log on to Windows. The password you enter is checked and validated on your computer. It is not sent over the Internet.

BlackBerry changes its tune, won’t update PlayBook to BB10 !

The company that once promised a BlackBerry 10 update for its aging PlayBook tablet, which was released over two years ago, has reneged on the offer. According to CEO Thorsten Heins, the device just never felt right with the test versions of BlackBerry 10. The experience was not up to the company’s high standards. This is likely due to the older dual-core Cortex-A9 architecture of the 1Ghz Snapdragon chipset, along with the monumental task of having to re-engineer core aspects of the BlackBerry 10 experience.

Though Heins assured thousands of PlayBook owners in January that they would be able to anticipate an update to BlackBerry 10, it seems that the company wants to focus on the future, and tablets are not a part of that roadmap at the moment. Heins said that BlackBerry wants to have a maximum of six products on the market at one time, and there just isn’t room for a form factor — tablets, both small and large — that he thinks will not have a market in five years.

Disappointing news, indeed, for PlayBook owners still holding on to hope, but not all that surprising given the state of the company’s finances. Wanting to focus on what actually makes them money, and cleaning out the cruft in their lineup, is the first step to profitability.

Update: Here’s the full transcript of what Heins said during the call:

“Let me also make some comments on Playbook. Our teams have spent a great deal of time and energy looking at solutions that could move the Blackberry 10 experience to Playbook. But unfortunately, I am not satisfied with the level of performance and user experience, and I made the difficult decision to stop these efforts and focus on our core hardware portfolio. We will, however, support Playbook on the existing software platforms and configurations.”
